Relaunch President Delors' three-point plan laid out the path to EMU France, Italy and the European Commission backed a fully monetary union with a central bank, which British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher opposed. The European Council summit in Hannover on 14 June 1988 began to outline monetary co-operation. In February 1986, the Single European Act formalised political co-operation within the EEC, including competency in monetary policy. It also created the European Monetary Cooperation Fund (EMCF). However, in March 1979 the European Monetary System (EMS) was created, fixing exchange rates onto the European Currency Unit (ECU), an accounting currency, to stabilise exchange rates and counter inflation. The widespread currency floats and devaluations set back aspirations for EMU. In 1971, US President Richard Nixon removed the gold backing from the US dollar, causing a collapse in the Bretton Woods system that managed to affect all of the world's major currencies. An attempt to limit the fluctuations of European currencies, using a snake in the tunnel, failed. But he did not propose a single currency or central bank. His report was published in October 1970 and recommended centralisation of the national macroeconomic policies entailing "the total and irreversible fixing of parity rates and the complete liberation of movements of capital". The European Council tasked Pierre Werner, Prime Minister of Luxembourg, with finding a way to reduce currency exchange rate volatility. This was followed up at a meeting of the European Council at The Hague in December 1969. At this time memories of the Latin Monetary Union involving principally France, Italy, Belgium and Switzerland and which, for practical purposes, had disintegrated following the First World War, figured prominently in the minds of policy makers.Ī first attempt to create an economic and monetary union between the members of the European Economic Community (EEC) arrived with an initiative by the European Commission in 1969, which set out the need for "greater co-ordination of economic policies and monetary cooperation". For example, as earlier on as the League of Nations, Gustav Stresemann had enquired in 1929 for a European currency against the background of an increased economic division due to a number of new nation states in Europe after World War I. The first ideas of an economic and monetary union in Europe were raised well before establishing the European Communities. In 2009, the Lisbon Treaty finalised its political authority, the Eurogroup, alongside the European Central Bank.ĭevelopment Early ideas Pierre Werner's report began the first moves towards monetary union It rapidly took over from the former national currencies and slowly expanded behind the rest of the EU. The currency was formed virtually in 1999 notes and coins began to circulate in 2002. After tough negotiations, the Maastricht Treaty entered into force in 1993 with the goal of creating an economic and monetary union (EMU) by 1999 for all EU states except the UK and Denmark (even though Denmark has a fixed exchange rate policy with the euro). The euro came into existence on 1 January 1999, although it had been a goal of the European Union (EU) and its predecessors since the 1960s. #: You can also set it to a specific number. Good for games that are running too slowly. Max: Sets the number to the highest possible. You can also set the cycles at the command prompt, using the command cycles where is one of the following: auto: The default, DOSBox tries to "guess" at an appropriate number. To change the number of cycles, you can use the CTRL-F11 (slower) and CTRL-F12 keys: CTRL-F11: - Decrease speed (game goes slower)ĬTRL-F12: + Increase speed (game goes faster) The exact number of cycles to make a game run as intended will vary based on how fast your own computer is. "Cycles" refers to the "amount of instructions DOSBox tries to emulate each millisecond." It's expressed as a number, so the higher the number, the faster computer DOSBox will simulate. Common ones are that there must be no gaps between tiles, and that no corner of one tile can lie along the edge of another. Tessellation in two dimensions, also called planar tiling, is a topic in geometry that studies how shapes, known as tiles, can be arranged to fill a plane without any gaps, according to a given set of rules. Overview A rhombitrihexagonal tiling: tiled floor in the Archeological Museum of Seville, Spain, using square, triangle, and hexagon prototiles It corresponds to the everyday term tiling, which refers to applications of tessellations, often made of glazed clay. The word "tessella" means "small square" (from tessera, square, which in turn is from the Greek word τέσσερα for four). In Latin, tessella is a small cubical piece of clay, stone, or glass used to make mosaics. Other prominent contributors include Alexei Vasilievich Shubnikov and Nikolai Belov (1964), and Heinrich Heesch and Otto Kienzle (1963). Fyodorov's work marked the unofficial beginning of the mathematical study of tessellations. Some two hundred years later in 1891, the Russian crystallographer Yevgraf Fyodorov proved that every periodic tiling of the plane features one of seventeen different groups of isometries. He wrote about regular and semiregular tessellations in his Harmonices Mundi he was possibly the first to explore and to explain the hexagonal structures of honeycomb and snowflakes. In 1619, Johannes Kepler made an early documented study of tessellations. ĭecorative mosaic tilings made of small squared blocks called tesserae were widely employed in classical antiquity, sometimes displaying geometric patterns. Tessellations were used by the Sumerians (about 4000 BC) in building wall decorations formed by patterns of clay tiles. History A temple mosaic from the ancient Sumerian city of Uruk IV (3400–3100 BC), showing a tessellation pattern in coloured tiles Tessellations form a class of patterns in nature, for example in the arrays of hexagonal cells found in honeycombs. Tessellations are sometimes employed for decorative effect in quilting. Escher often made use of tessellations, both in ordinary Euclidean geometry and in hyperbolic geometry, for artistic effect. Historically, tessellations were used in Ancient Rome and in Islamic art such as in the Moroccan architecture and decorative geometric tiling of the Alhambra palace. Such tilings may be decorative patterns, or may have functions such as providing durable and water-resistant pavement, floor, or wall coverings. A tessellation of space, also known as a space filling or honeycomb, can be defined in the geometry of higher dimensions.Ī real physical tessellation is a tiling made of materials such as cemented ceramic squares or hexagons. An aperiodic tiling uses a small set of tile shapes that cannot form a repeating pattern (an aperiodic set of prototiles). A tiling that lacks a repeating pattern is called "non-periodic". The patterns formed by periodic tilings can be categorized into 17 wallpaper groups. Some special kinds include regular tilings with regular polygonal tiles all of the same shape, and semiregular tilings with regular tiles of more than one shape and with every corner identically arranged. In mathematics, tessellation can be generalized to higher dimensions and a variety of geometries.Ī periodic tiling has a repeating pattern. An example of non‑periodicity due to another orientation of one tile out of an infinite number of identical tiles.Ī tessellation or tiling is the covering of a surface, often a plane, using one or more geometric shapes, called tiles, with no overlaps and no gaps. “Life is ten percent what happens to you and ninety percent how you respond to it.” - Charles Swindoll “The best thing in life is finding someone who knows all your mistakes and weaknesses and still thinks you are completely amazing.” – Unknown Spiritual Message of the Day “Kites rise highest against the wind, not with it.” ~ Winston Churchill “You know, there are two good things in life, freedom of thought and freedom of action.” ~ Somerset Maugham “You cannot swim for new horizons until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore.” ~ William Faulkner “It doesn’t matter how many people you meet in your life you just need the real ones who accept you for who you are and help you become who you should be.” – Roy T. Want some more inspiration for using mandarin oranges? Try these diabetes-friendly recipes that feature this small citrus powerhouse. Larger mandarins like tangerines and satsumas are juicier than the smaller varieties and can be juiced to use in salad dressings and marinades. Segments of mandarin oranges can be used in both fruit and veggie salads, salsa, tacos, parfaits, and so much more. They’re also easy to transport for packing in lunch boxes or hiking backpacks. A large mandarin orange contains more than 50% of the vitamin C you need in a day.Įasily peeled and separated into segments, mandarin oranges make excellent quick snacks for both children and adults. Mandarin oranges are also an excellent source of vitamin C, which is an antioxidant that helps the immune system function and creates collagen, essential for wound healing and healthy skin. Smaller sized clementines contain about 35 calories and 10 grams of carbohydrates. Easy to peel with a rich orange/deep red pulp, the Satsuma fruit has a sweet, slightly tart taste and captivating aroma. (1948) divided them into four groups, king, satsuma, mandarin, and tangerine, and Hodgson (1967) saw in them four species. A seedless Tangerine variety, the fruit of the Satsuma Mandarin is mainly used for canning, but is quickly gaining popularity as freshly-picked choice across the U.S. Mandarin oranges are delicious and full of nutrition, all in a tiny package! A large 120g mandarin orange (about 2 ¾ inches in diameter) has about 60 calories and 15 grams of carbohydrates. As such, many hybrid species represent the clonal progeny of a single original F1 cross, though others combine fruit with similar characteristics that have arisen from distinct crosses. Mandarin oranges aren’t typically found in the freezer aisle, as freezing reduces the taste and texture of oranges. Be sure to choose canned or packaged mandarin oranges labeled as “no sugar added” and drain well before eating to help reduce the effect on blood glucose (blood sugar). Mandarin oranges can also be found in the canned foods aisle. Mandarins stored in the fridge can last from two weeks to a month. They’ll ripen much quicker at room temperature and easily mold if not eaten within a week. Store mandarin oranges in a cool, dark place such as the fridge. Choose fruits that look heavy for their size and are unblemished. Satsuma: Originating from Japan, this seedless variety has a thicker, more delicate skin and bruises easily, making it great to eat locally or used in canning for shipment.Ĭlementines are usually found in two- or five-pound bags, while tangerines and sumo mandarins are sold individually.Sumo: A larger variety that has the most intense orange flavor. With 1.6 grams of fiber packed into each medium fruit, adding tangerines to your daily diet is a great way to support regularity and enhance digestive health. Tangerines: This larger variety of mandarin orange is more tart and has a deeper orange/red color. Tangerines are also loaded with vitamin C, a water-soluble vitamin that acts as an antioxidant to protect cells from oxidative damage.Clementines: The smallest mandarin orange, they are seedless and very easy to peel, making them a great choice for kids. This is when a lot of other fruits are out of season, like berries. Grown mostly in California, mandarins are considered a winter fruit and are in season November through April. $750.00 is financed at 0% APR for 6 months. It most likely means there’s some tricky alcohol legislations currently in place. Note: If there’s an asterisk (*) next to your state, this means we’ve provided additional details at the bottom of this post. With that being said, it’s not always the case in every state. Generally, states are more lenient when it comes to the minimum age for employees to serve alcohol as opposed to being a bartender. Bartenders: Also sometimes referred to as “sellers,” these are individuals who actual create or dispense alcoholic beverages.Īlthough these might sound like the same thing, states actually treat them differently and it is worth noting which table you are referencing.Īpron up my bartending padawans – let’s get to it!
